Schedule future watch parties

Is it possible to schedule a watch party for a certain date/time which will only allow invited people to join when it’s time for the “show” to start?

Hey, thanks for your feedback" Unfortunately this is currently not possible. What would be your use case?

I would like to host watch parties of films on Saturday nights at a specific time for a group of people. It would be easier for me to set up the playlist I need for the watch party, share the link in a facebook group or private event page, and then at the designated time, the room would be “open” and they could join at which time I’d hit play.

Thanks for the info! That’s something we could implement in the future. I’ll have to think about it! In the meantime you could enable moderation for your room. Please see: How to use Watch2Gether?

This way you can ensure that users joining early can not really do something in the room.

Thank you - that was a helpful link!

Question: since my room is always “open” for people to join, I’ve set the permissions for all to “moderator”. That said, is there a way to have a notice of when I’ll next be hosting. What I mean is say that I planned on hosting Saturday at 8PM and I post the link in a Facebook group on Friday. If someone was to go there early, it could say somewhere “next show Saturday 8PM EST”. Is something like that possible?

Hmm… not really at the moment. You could create a playlist entry and “misuse” the title as a note to your users. But I do think that you have a point there. I’ll think about ways to make Watch2Gether more suitable for this use case.

Thanks for your help. We had a successful watch party last Friday. About 20 attendees on short notice.

That’s great to hear. Which other features or improvements would you like to see for this use case? I’m curious because Watch2Gether was originally designed for smaller groups.

Other than the ones I’ve already brought up, I think it worked fine. I created a playlist of trailers before the movie and all played seamlessly. The chat function worked well and I like that I was able to not allow people to use cams and microphone.

Thanks for your feedback! I have the option to disable a room with a note when it will be back online on my todo list.

That would be awesome. I’m doing another watch party Friday at 9pmEST if you want to stop in and see how I run them

So we had our second watch party tonight and had an issue with the main movie. It would not play as it told the room and I that something needed to be installed. I’m thinking because it had an adult warning even though it is available on youtube? This is the movie link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nU0ZdiXmCE&list=PLUiBEEWxeT8nNpnq9JqNFN2PFUh8xc8i2&index=7

Yes unfortunately Youtube does not allow embedding of age restricted content. This is the case with any website embedding Youtube videos and not specific for Watch2Gether. As a workaround every visitor in the room can install our browser extension which will allow you to watch the video in-sync in a separate window.
