Youtube captions keep turning on when i don't want them

it keeps forcing youtube’s native captions, even if my personal youtube doesn’t have them on.

if i go into native controls, it’ll turn off, but i dislike how things are formatted in the native control setting, so i usually revert. this does not make it stick. it will turn the captions back on regardless.

this was not an issue a few days ago, when i last used w2g.

Thanks for your feedback! If you go to the room settings, you enable the option “Always show native player controls” - you can then switch of captions using Youtube’s controls. We are currently working on an update that will enable this option by default.

I have the opposite problem, I can’t get them to stay on, with or without the native controls. As soon as it goes to the next video, they’re off again. My YouTube settings are to always have them on, so I’m used to always seeing the captions but I don’t get them automatically when I watch through W2G instead of YouTube.

Which browser are you using? If you are using a browser that supports 3rd party cookies (like Chrome) and you are logged into your Youtube account with that browser while using Watch2Gether, there is a good chance that your Youtube settings apply in Watch2Gether as well. However, i have to admit that this is beyond our control.

I’m using Chrome, so one would think that they should stay on, since that’s how I have them set up in YouTube. But they don’t. I think it’s kind of funny that I want the problem that the OP had (always turn back on) and they want the one that I have (never stay on). Too bad we can’t just trade glitches!

i use firefox. i’m really unsure why this glitch occurs, lol

I’m on Firefox, having the same issue mentioned above.

From nowhere i started getting subtitles on all the videos linked and i have no way of turning them off other than manually entering Native Player and turning it off from there every single time.

Dislike the Native Player, so i hope there’s a solution around the corner.

You can permanently turn on native player controls in the room settings (under personal settings) This way you don’t have to manually turn them on every time. Does that help?
