Why we cant see other users rooms?

This was also discussed in 2018 and there is still no progress. Yes, the usage rate of the site is really low and there are almost 100 people using this site. But it would be nice if there was an interface where we could see other users’ rooms. For example, if there was a privacy setting at the top when we create our own room, we could make the room setting public, open to connection. Also, when we enter w2g, instead of the home page taking us directly to our rooms, it gives us 2 options, one would be our rooms and the other would be the list of rooms. In the room list we could see the rooms that are open to everyone and we could join them, you could also add a password feature so that we could set a password for the rooms.

I appreciate your feedback! This is a tricky one… Watch2Gether was designed to be a meeting place for groups of people who are normally close, know and trust each other and want to hang out and have a good time. Public rooms could lead to a very different experience, and while there’s a great opportunity there, I’m not sure it’s the right direction for the platform. But I’m curious about other opinions and open to discussion.

PS: There are far more than 100 users active on Watch2Gether

That’s good to know, I thought there were about 100 people but it’s good that the site is being used more. If you create a discord group for WatchParty maybe people can share their rooms there. I think that could be a good option.

I also love the Community page, some look for a modern design but I still use and admire the 2010 designs. It’s really very simple and clean. Especially in the commenting section you also get very detailed settings like Word.

I don’t know why, but the old ones still give a vibe that is many times more beautiful than some modern things. There’s nothing like the early days of the internet. Think about it, now people are asking each other whatsapp or discord addresses while in the early days they were talking by sharing their emails. I think it’s much more charismatic that way.

I think this feature would be great if rooms a under the responsability of their creator so we don’t have any moderation/TOS problemes in the future.
If you do implement it it would be great to accompany it with a revamped chat (maybe just visual) to be a modern live chatroom.

You mean that the creators are the only ones controlling the video?

I mean the creator act as the “publisher”.
So if a copyright holder makes a reclamation, or if a governement claim the content is against their legislation.
Watch2Gether would not be liable.

Got it. I think it would change the core value of Watch2Gether from being a social hangout for smaller groups to a more broadcast oriented platform. Do you see a niche there besides the large players like twitch?

Definitly.
These days most big streamers have an active offline chat community.
If you check xQc’s offline chat you’ll see that time to time they even organise games like skribble.io, jigsawpuzzles.io, …
And when it comes to react content the chat often knows what to watch (if he is offline during gamescom next week you’ll see his chat react to gamescom anyway).
So i do believe that watch2Gether can grow bigger communities.

The site as it is now is really adequate, people can enjoy it with their friends in cinema style or use it as a chat group. But still, if there was a place to share rooms, we could meet more people and do more activities. And that way the site would not just be for personal use, but for all users to get together. :slightly_smiling_face:

Maybe it’s an option to have a curated list of public rooms that have a proven good reputation. I’ll think about it!
