Hey! So, I use W2G all the time for roleplaying online and syncing our soundtracks, and I like to run horror campaigns more often than not. For this, I use slow downs and speedups to discombobulate the listeners… and it hasn’t been working for about a month. Slowdowns just make the video skip slightly, and the same goes for speedups. I even try this with native controls, and it doesn’t work there, either.
This website is my bread and butter to making a fun experience all around, and I would really appreciate the help. Thank you for reading!
Thank you very much for your bug report! I have tried to reproduce the issue, but so far I have been unable to do so. Are you using Watch2Gether’s player controls to change the speed, as shown in the screenshot below?
I have two additional questions:
- Do you see the same behaviour when you are alone in your room?
- Does it work better when you turn on moderation for the player?
Ah, sorry for the late response! I got busy.
I am using the player controls as well as the native controls! I have tried both to no avail. For further info, I am on Opera GX (I forgot to say last time.)
Turning on moderation for the player has no other effect - I usually have it on, and turning it off didn’t change it, either.
What happens is I play the song for a bit, and then every now and again it skips backwards in the song to ‘match’ where it would be if it was slowed, and vice versa if I sped it up.
Thank you for your response!
Thank you very much for the details. The steps to reproduce this issue are as follows:
- Create a new Watch2Gether room.
- Play any YouTube video.
- Select a higher speed (such as 1.5x) in the Watch2Gether player menu.
Is that correct?
So far, I have not been able to reproduce the issue. I don’t have access to Opera GX right now, but I’ll try it later today. Perhaps it’s specific to that browser.
When the video skips backwards, are you sure that it skips to a position where it would play at the original speed? Or could it be that it skips back by a small amount, causing visible interruptions?
Florian
Hello!
The most pressing issue is the lack of being able to do slowdowns, so I recorded a video for you to showcase how it happens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGxbFlkLBsM
In the latter half of the video, I also show I’m unable to do this in the native player controls. You can see how it plays the song and then goes backward every now and again to catch it up.
I hope this helps!
Great, thanks a lot for actually creating a video! I see what you mean now. I’ll try to reproduce this with Opera GX. If you have the chance, could you try opening a Watch2Gether room with a different browser on your system to see if you experience the same issue?
I just tried the site in Opera GX, and the speedup and speeddown features work fine. Do you have any extensions installed on Opera GX? These can sometimes lead to unwanted side effects during video playback.
Sorry for the late reply, Florian! I figured out the issue!
Thank you for the suggestion for extensions, it’s Adblock Plus! With it off, the slowdowns and speedups work just fine!
Ublock doesn’t affect it, just Adblock Plus!
Thanks for finding this out! Yes, adblockers can have strange side effects sometimes.I‘ll have a closer look at Adblock Plus to understand this a bit better.
