Screenshare + Audio in Firefox

I’m aware that there have been several thread about this topic but most are quite old at this point.
I really want to swap away from using Chrome entirely but I’m using Watch2gether pretty much daily for all kinds of sharing, especially screen sharing and it seems that to this date, no one has figured out any way of getting audio sharing to work with screen sharing in firefox-based browsers.

Is anyone aware of any workarounds or methods to make this work? There must be a way - I can’t believe that this is an actual technical limitiation from firefox that has not been addressed in the last 8 years or so.

Thank you for contacting us! This is indeed a long-standing problem with Firefox. If you search the web, you’ll find plenty of references to this missing feature. One (untested) workaround might be to use a software like manycam to capture your screen with audio and configure that stream as a virtual webcam that can be selected in Firefox. Another way to get around Chrome would be to use another browser that uses the same engine, such as Opera, Edge or Chromium.

How does screenshare work for you in general on Watch2Gether?

Hey, i know I’m about…6 months too late with my reply.
To answer your question: Generally on chrome, screensharing works really well. I use it on a daily basis with friends. Sometimes it’ll need a refresh from every user when people change streams or restart their streams a bit too much, then it gets a black screen or stuck image. But that’s not reeeally an issue and happens pretty rarely. So this sometimes happens where people will be “Wait, do i need to refresh or did your stream stop?” but that’s to be expected really, people will have connection issues etc.

Regarding my inquiry 6 months later: Honestly, I still haven’t found a satisfying solution to this issue. I don’t want to use chromium based browsers for multiple reasons (like manifest v2 getting abandoned). I also don’t want to use a whole software suite to be able to stream on Firefox. I’ve been using Librefox for general browsing and chrome just for watch2gether but in the end I still end up often just using chrome because i also don’t wanna hog unnecessary system resources by running two browsers with different extensions etc.
It’s really unfortunate that there is no real solution and firefox might not ever implement it because the demand isn’t there. There are some submitted threads about this on mozilla connect but it seems it’s just too niche of a problem. I obviously don’t blame watch2gether for this, you guys are doing a fantastic job and I love this platform. But it really is very frustrating.

Thanks a lot for your feedback once more. I understand your frustration! Would Chromium be an option for you? Same engine like Chrome but less Google integration.
