Recurrent Video Playback Issue – "This YouTube video cannot be played..." Error

Hi Watch2Gether team,

I’ve been experiencing a recurring issue when trying to watch YouTube videos on your platform. At random times, I receive the following message on videos that previously worked fine:

“This YouTube video cannot be played directly on Watch2Gether for one of the following reasons: The video is age restricted… [etc.]”

The strange part is that the same video sometimes plays perfectly later, or after refreshing the page a few times. I’m not using a VPN, I’m signed into YouTube, and the videos themselves are not age-restricted or embedding-disabled when checked directly on YouTube. I’ve also disabled ad blockers to test, but the issue still pops up sporadically.

It seems like a bug or some temporary desync between Watch2Gether and YouTube. This intermittent behavior is quite disruptive, especially when watching with friends.

Could you please look into this or suggest a more permanent fix?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Have you been experiencing this issue just today or consistently for the whole time you have been using Watch2Gether? For the later case when did your start seeing this issue? And… which browser are you using?

Did anyone ever address this? I have been having the same issue

no they havent i been having issue for anything isnt that isnt user created videos / music videos play for anyone who isnt in usa etc or random videos saying

This YouTube video cannot be played directly on Watch2Gether for one of the following reasons:

  • The video is age restricted. (YouTube does not allow age-restricted videos to be embedded on any site.)

  • You are not signed in to your Youtube account.

  • You are using a VPN or ad blocker that is interfering with the video playback. Try to disable and reload the site.

  • The uploader of the video has disabled embedding.
