Made a Chrome Extension for Quick YouTube → W2G Sharing

Hey W2G community!

Got tired of the copy-paste dance every time I wanted to share a YouTube video, so I built a small Chrome extension that adds a “Y2W” button directly in YouTube’s player.

One click = video in your W2G room.

Features:

  • Works in all YouTube layouts (theater mode, fullscreen, mobile view)

  • Your credentials stay securely in your browser

  • Automatically creates a new room or uses your existing one

  • Native-looking integration

How it works:

  1. Get your API key from your W2G account settings

  2. Save it in the extension

  3. Click “Y2W” on any YouTube video

  4. Done! Video appears in your room

Some ideas I’m considering:

  • Queue multiple videos at once

  • Custom room selection

  • Keyboard shortcuts

  • Auto-sync timestamps

Thanks for your contribution! I just tried it and it seems to work fine! What’s a bit confusing is the fact that sometimes a new room is being created and sometimes a video is being added to the Playlist of an existing room. Maybe there is a way to make this a bit clearer to the user.

Í Hey! Thanks for the suggestion - I’ve just released v1.0.1 with that improvement! :tada:

The extension now includes a more descriptive notification message when sharing videos to W2G, making it clearer when the video has been successfully sent to your room.

You can update to the latest version through the Chrome Web Store, or it should auto-update soon.
